There’s a new round of competition for Pokémon Go players, where Trainers can bring unique Pokémon to battle against each other in the Fossil Cup. This is a limited-time competition where Pokémon Go players compete against each other to prove who has the best ancient Pokémon.

The Fossil Cup is available to all Battle League players and will kick off during Pokémon Go’s Adventure Week 2024 event. The competition begins on August 2 at 3:00 PM CT and runs until August 16, giving you plenty of opportunities to increase your Battle League rank and earn various rewards before the end of the Shared Skies season. To ensure you do your best in these battles, we’ve put together a list of some of the best Pokémon teams you can use when taking on others in the Fossil Cup.

The Fossil Cup is a Great League competition, meaning you can’t use Pokémon that have more than 1,500 CP. They must meet or fall below this power threshold. All Pokémon you choose must also be Rock, Steel, or Water-types. If they aren’t, you won’t be able to add them to your Pokémon Go team for this event.

Given these limitations, Water-type Pokémon have the best chance of being some of the most powerful choices in these battles. Don’t be afraid to try every version of Water-type Pokémon you have, but we believe that some choices are better than others.
