Although their value is relatively lower than Dolly Tickets and Dragon Crystals, their use is much more important. You will need this resource at various times, but you will mainly need it to unlock new Heroes. To be fair, gems are a common reward for almost every task you complete in the AFK Journey. You can get them by looting hidden areas on the map, defeating enemies, etc. You can also complete daily challenges to get gems. But you should know that both methods won’t give you many gems.
