One of the most anticipated titles of the second half of 2024 is slowly gaining traction on Steam as its release date draws ever closer. Black Myth: Wukong now sits in the prestigious number one spot on Valve’s showcase as its current best-selling game.

The Soulslike game is currently targeting an August 20 release date and is currently dominating the bestsellers chart at the time of writing. It’s ahead of a host of flagship and blockbuster titles, including God of War (which is currently heavily discounted) and the upcoming Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, which sits in third place. Other games include Elden Ring and Borderlands 3, the latter of which is also 90 percent off, likely riding the wave of the film adaptation.
Black Myth: Wukong aims to challenge the position of the critically acclaimed Souls games developed by FromSoftware, most notably Elden Ring, one of the best-selling games of all time. Although, from what we could see in the trailer footage, it would do the game more justice to compare it to games like Lies of P, which proved that FromSoftware isn’t the only studio capable of creating titles in this arcane genre.
The Journey to the West-inspired game is being developed by Chinese studio Game Science and is one of many new games we’re seeing come out of the country to tap into the massive Western gaming ethos. Fans are also expecting another similar game, Phantom Blade Zero, which has an unknown release date and details are scarce outside of a gameplay reveal shown off during Summer Games Fest.
