Blizzard is no longer concerned about unfair player advantages in Diablo IV, stating that no one can "pay for energy" in seasonal content anymore.
Dear Blizzard, I have fixed Diablo 4 for you
The latest quarterly update for the upcoming action-RPG Diablo IV details some of Blizzard’s plans surrounding post-launch content and how it plans to keep things fair for its players. This is particularly true when it comes to how it handles online player interactions, as balance for player-versus-player (PvP) combat is an ongoing concern.
Diablo IV will receive a steady stream of seasonal content after launch, each with its own unique questline and feedback-driven gameplay adjustments. Everyone will have to create a brand new character to start a new season, which Blizzard believes will keep things fair. It also means that anyone who missed out on previous seasons won’t be at a gameplay disadvantage.
Blizzard is also limiting what Diablo IV's in-game shop (which uses a premium currency paid for with real money) has to offer in the interest of fairness to players. Blizzard ensures that the only things you can buy with real money are cosmetics, which affect a character's appearance, but not stats or performance.
