The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has announced the release of Bluetooth 6.0 – the next generation of the wireless communications protocol.
Bluetooth 6.0 Revealed: New Features and Upgrades Explained! 📡
The new version brings several new features and improvements. But the most notable is Bluetooth Channel Sounding, a feature that will improve Bluetooth tracking by determining the distance between devices with previously unseen precision. This should greatly improve device location using Apple's Find My and Google's Find My Device, and developers will soon be able to integrate it into their devices and services.
The added security of Channel Sounding will also enhance digital key solutions, allowing only authorized users to access secure areas. Precise tracking will ensure devices are only unlocked when the digital key is within a certain range.
Developers can also use Channel Sounding to enhance PC and gaming peripherals like keyboards, mice, and game controllers so that they automatically activate or deactivate depending on their distance from the main device.
