The Gamescom 2024 livestream kicked off with an exclusive trailer announcement that millions of seasoned Vault Hunters have been waiting for. After continued rumors and leaks about the development process, Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 is now officially scheduled for release sometime in 2025.
Borderlands 4 – Reveal Trailer | gamescom 2024
This is the latest sequel in the critically acclaimed looter-shooter franchise, following the release of Borderlands 3 in 2019 and the story-driven New Tales from the Borderlands in 2022. Rumors of Borderlands 4 first began in 2021, with Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford not hesitating to drop hints about it, suggesting the game would be coming “sooner rather than later.”
Now those rumors have become reality, as the first announcement trailer for Borderlands 4 debuted at Gamescom 2024, though it was predictably short and sweet. With no dialogue anywhere, we get a quick shot of the Firehawk emblem (which means Lilith will be back somehow) and an unknown planet full of what appears to be Eridium implodes and crashes into another planet.
From the fiery rubble, a hand reaches into a crater and picks up one of the all-too-recognizable masks worn by the franchise’s psychopathic enemies. The trailer closes with the game’s title in iconic, bold gold lettering.
