Whether you’re trying to keep track of your business mileage or making sure your teens aren’t speeding when they’re out and about, one of the best ways to keep tabs on your vehicle is to invest in a GPS tracker (not to be confused with a GPS system). Your standard GPS tracker can keep track of the device’s location, but OBD-II port trackers have other added features that can help you better understand your driving habits and even alert you to what’s wrong when that dreaded Check Engine Light comes on.
For this review, we’re taking a look at the Bouncie GPS Tracker, a 3G tracker that plugs directly into your vehicle’s OBD-II port and helps you track your habits and location using an accompanying smartphone app. I’ve spent over 60 hours driving this unit and have summarized my thoughts in the sections below.
The Bouncie is pretty standard in terms of design. Like many other OBD-II port trackers and diagnostic tools, it has a rectangular design with your standard trapezoidal section for the device to plug into your vehicle’s OBD-II port. Other than that, there’s nothing to report as the device is mostly set and forget.
Unlike so many other GPS trackers I’ve tested, setting up Bouncie was a breeze. After taking the device out of the box, all you need to do is download the companion app (Android, iOS) and follow the included instructions to power on and connect the device. After creating your Bouncie account, all you need to do is subscribe to the service (either online or via an in-app purchase) and you’re on your way to keeping tabs on your vehicle. From start to finish, the process took me no more than 10 minutes.
