Bungie, the maker of Destiny 2 and Marathon, has laid off 17 percent of its workforce, or 220 employees, effective immediately.
Bungie just laid off 17% of their staff…
Bungie CEO Pete Parsons today released a statement about the layoffs of hundreds of developers, roughly nine months after laying off more than 100 employees in late October 2023 after the studio failed to meet internal financial targets.
"Today is a difficult and painful day, especially for our departing colleagues, all of whom have made significant and valuable contributions to Bungie," Parsons said. "Our goal is to support them with the utmost care and respect. For everyone affected by these job cuts, we are offering a generous exit package, including severance pay, bonuses, and health insurance."
Parsons called the announcement "tough news, especially after the success we've seen with The Final Shape, but as we navigate the broader economic realities of the past year and exhaust all other mitigating options, this has become a necessary decision to refocus our studio and our company with more realistic goals and viable finances."
