If your Bungie name has changed unexpectedly in the last few days, the good news is that Bungie is working on it. The bad news is that you might be stuck with your new name for a while.
The chance of this happening was only 2.6%
In an X-thread on August 15, the Destiny 2 development team announced that it had released a "server-side change" to prevent this issue from impacting accounts in the future. "We are continuing to investigate options to address impacted player accounts. This will take some time as our path forward is dependent on resolving the underlying issue," the post read.
Bungie plans to distribute an additional name change token to all players at a later date to address the issue. In the meantime, players affected by this bug are stuck with their shiny new default Guardian name. There is no target date for token distribution yet, but the developer promises to address this "as soon as possible."
The issue with Bungie’s name moderation tool began after the weekly reset on August 13th, changing many players’ names even though it didn’t break any rules. If you haven’t logged in this week, check to see if your name is still there. Everyone affected now has a default Guardian name followed by a four-digit tag.
