According to a new report from Activision, Call of Duty's efforts to address in-game toxicity in both voice and text messages have yielded notable results.
FAT KID vs. the whole toxic Call of Duty lobby…
Activision said it began working with Community Sift for text-based moderation in November 2023 with Modern Warfare 3, and that has since resulted in more than 45 million text-based posts that “violate the code of conduct” being blocked. It sounds like it’s working well, and that’s a good thing.
Activision says the same systems will be in place on day one of Black Ops 6 when it launches later this month, as the company continues to try to "foster a positive and welcoming community for all players." Isn't that what we should all be striving for? In BO6, it'll be available in 20 languages.
"The Disruptive Behavior team knows that hype and passion are part of the DNA of Call of Duty," Activision said. "Voice and text-based moderation tools in Call of Duty don't focus on our competitive spirit – they enforce behaviors identified in the Call of Duty Franchise Code of Conduct, which focuses on harassment and derogatory language. Like MW3, the CoD Code of Conduct will be visible during the initial in-game flow when players first launch core multiplayer modes in Black Ops 6, prompting players to acknowledge the Code of Conduct pillars."
