There was a time when the idea of a free-to-play, cross-platform, cross-progression game like Spellbreak wouldn’t have been feasible. Yet, here we are in 2020, watching a game developer like Proletariat attempt to not only create the idea of games being available across platforms, but normalize it. But democratizing gaming is still a rather expensive endeavor, and one of the primary ways Spellbreak makes money is when players invest in the game’s currency, gold.
Gold can be earned by winning battles at a rate of 50 gold per match. However, if you’re in a hurry to get that skin you’ve been craving in the game’s store, you also have the option to purchase gold from the Gold Store in Spellbreak or as an add-on in the console’s store using real money.
One of the biggest benefits of Spellbreak is that all progress in the game is saved across platforms. This means that if you play a game on your PC and Nintendo Switch, you will be returned to the last progress your breaker made, regardless of which console/device you are using.
Unfortunately, despite the cross-progression aspect, gold purchased on one platform is not transferable to another. All consoles/platforms explicitly state that gold purchased on a specific console cannot be used on another platform. We believe the reason for this is that your payment is not made to the game, but to the console manufacturer’s store, which acts as an intermediary in the whole process. This is also the reason why there is a price difference in the prices of the Gold pack on different platforms.
