The Canon VIXIA HF R800 Camcorder isn’t the most feature-rich camcorder on the market and lacks many of the more advanced features found in more expensive options. To make matters worse, the Canon VIXIA HF R800 Camcorder’s performance also falls behind many modern smartphones on a number of different metrics. And yet, despite its numerous disclaimers, the HF R800 is actually a solid purchase for many users.
As paradoxical as it may sound, there are a few key selling points, ranging from the 32x optical zoom to the image stabilization performance. Let’s take a look at where the HF R800 excels and where it still needs some work.
If you're used to testing and using larger camcorders, it's certainly a bit of a shock to take this one out of the box. It's a diminutive device, with a diminutive, barrel-like design that will be familiar to anyone used to owning a consumer-grade camcorder. It'd be easy to dismiss the HF R800 based on its looks and price point, but Canon quickly makes up ground on the merits of the camcorder itself.
