6 Different Methods to Fix This Problem
Computer won't boot with external USB hard drive connected?
I recently purchased a 2TB Western Digital My Book and connected it to my home Windows PC. Everything was working fine until I decided to reboot the computer. Instead of Windows booting, all I got was a black screen and nothing else. I couldn't boot into Windows!
At first I thought there was something wrong with Windows and that I needed to do a system repair or something. But because my external hard drive happened to be in front of my DVD drive, I unplugged it so I could put the Windows DVD in. When I did that, the PC suddenly booted!
I tested it again and found out that it was the external hard drive that was preventing Windows from loading properly. After playing around with a lot of settings and doing quite a bit of research, I was able to resolve the issue. In this article, I will go through the different methods that I tried and hopefully one will work for you and suit your needs.
