Cat5 and Cat6 Ethernet cables are both popular options for wired networks. However, there are some key differences between the two and reasons why you're probably better off with the newer Cat6 standard for your next network upgrade.

Cat5 VS Cat6 – What's the Difference?

Cat5 and Cat6 Ethernet cables are not entirely distinct from each other. They both use the RJ45 header to connect to devices and networking hardware and are constructed using twisted pairs of copper.

They both transmit data at high speeds over low latency networks. They are available with a range of shielding options and different specifications, such as being rated for use behind walls or with additional fire protection.

However, the raw capabilities of Cat5 and Cat6 cables are quite different. Cat6 cables can transfer much more data much faster than Cat5, and because they are built to higher specifications, they are usually higher quality, with less chance of interference.
