The first day of CES 2021 got off to a flying start, with all of the show’s big brands making announcements one after the other. This included LG, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, TCL, and Hisense, which, as expected, meant it was a good day for home theater enthusiasts and audiophiles. But companies were just as eager to show off how they’re adapting to the pandemic era with UV sanitization, smart home gadgets, and fancy refrigerators.
LG Keynote Roundup – CES 2021 Day 1 with Techkhamun
LG is a traditional anchor for CES, and that didn’t change despite the show’s shift to virtual. The company delivered a sleek, fluid presentation that stood out among its rivals. It also showed the strongest direct response to the pandemic. LG started its spotlight not with TVs but with air purifiers, a product category that in any other year would get only a brief mention, if at all.
Two specific air purifiers took the spotlight: LG’s PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier and the PuriCare Mini portable air purifier. The PuriCare Wearable, which looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, is literally an air purifier that you can attach to your face like a surgical mask. The PuriCare Mini, on the other hand, is a tiny air purifier about the size of a typical Bluetooth speaker. Its built-in lithium-ion battery can power it for up to eight hours.
LG is also adding ultraviolet antibacterial technology to all things. That includes your refrigerator, where some LG models will use UV sanitizing to clean the water dispenser nozzle between uses. The company also plans to sell an automated UV sanitizing robot called CloiBot that can wipe down doors, tables, chairs, and anything else that gets a lot of use in a shared public space.
