Change Default Media Player and Photo Viewer in Windows 8
I've been using Windows 8 for a few weeks now and recently ran into a problem when I tried to play some video files. I take a lot of videos from my Panasonic HD camcorder and the files are all .M2TS files, which the Video app in Windows 8 can play, but Windows Media Player cannot.
I got an error message saying that Windows Media Player had a problem downloading the playlist, whatever that means. However, for some reason Windows 8 tried to open the video file in Windows Media Player every time by default. I had to manually keep right-clicking on the files and choosing Open With to use the Video app.
In this article, I'll briefly explain how to change the default video player and photo viewer in Windows 8. By default, most photo files open with the Photos app in Windows 8, but if you want to use a different program, you'll need to change it manually.
