When you create a new email message in Outlook and select the To field or click the To button, a list of contacts appears. This list is sorted alphabetically by first name and then last name. If you prefer to sort the list by last name followed by first name, change this.

To change how contacts are sorted in the Outlook Select Names dialog box, do the following:
Go to the File tab and select Info.
Select Account Settings > Account Settings.
