The first location you encounter in Chants of Sennaar is the Abbey location. There you will meet a tribe of people called the Devotees, who have a language that is unique to them. To progress through this area, you will need to collect all 34 glyphs and enter them into your journal.
After you leave the starting area, the first puzzle you encounter is the door opening. This gives you your first glimpse of the language and you need to notice how the door mechanism works. If you push it up, the door opens and if you push it down, the door closes. Once you interact with the sign by the mechanism, you can highlight the words for "open", "close" and "door".
