OpenAI Shelve ChatGPT Watermarks Over User Concerns
According to The Wall Street Journal, OpenAI already has a system for watermarking text generated by ChatGPT. But it is considering releasing it at all, citing several problems and complexities involved, potentially scaring off users who don’t want to be discovered using AI-generated text.
In an updated blog post on the AI text detection research, OpenAI states, “Our teams have developed a text watermarking method that we continue to consider as we investigate alternatives.”

However, the company claims that its text watermarking method, which was developed exclusively for ChatGPT-generated content, is highly accurate and has very low false positive rates.
