The “custom instructions” update allows users to set their preferences for how ChatGPT responds in a conversation. The artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot can remember some background information from user interactions.
“A dialogue with AI shouldn’t just happen once,” Xiaozhong Liu, a professor of computer science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, told Lifewire in an email interview. “Instead, the chat model should understand the context or discourse of the conversation.”
According to OpenAI, the new memory feature is a response to user complaints about the difficulty of restarting each chat.
