Just like apps on your phone, websites can ask for permissions in your browser. Some of these permissions are quite essential, such as webcam access for video calling apps, but it’s a good idea to regularly review which websites and web apps have access to which permissions on your computer and phone.

These permissions can be pretty important, too: access to your location, for example. You’ll probably want to enable this for a website that provides you with a daily weather forecast, but it’s not necessarily something you want every website to know.

No matter which browser you use, permissions must be explicitly requested and then granted by you. There is no way to access them covertly. You will see a pop-up when a new permission is requested, but as we show you here, you can also check which permissions you have granted or blocked at any time.
