Some child monitoring apps exploit parents' concerns about their children.
Consequences of Endless Screen Time for Children
Popular child-tracking apps that have had millions of downloads on the Play Store have gaping security holes, according to security researchers at Cybernews. Some apps exposed children’s information to unauthorized viewers, while others had trackers that also spied on parents.
“[These apps are] essentially a backdoor into your child’s phone that, at the very least, is collecting massive amounts of data about them,” Jason Glassberg, co-founder of Casaba Security, told Cybernews. “At worst, they can do things that are much more malicious.”
The researchers analyzed 10 child monitoring apps on the Google Play Store, each of which had been downloaded more than a million times.
