File Ownership and Chown – Linux Tutorial 22
Managing ownership and file permissions is probably the most essential task of a system administrator. In any multi-user operating system such as Linux, correctly assigning ownership of files and folders is crucial.
The chown command is the most helpful tool for this. Not to be confused with chmod, chown can change user ownership of files and assign them to different groups. It is an essential command to master for any serious Linux user.
