Cities: Skylines 2 can’t catch a break, because now even the DLC doesn’t work anymore, for all the wrong reasons. To compensate disgruntled fans, the developer made the first DLC free and removed the store page, causing players to see entire city blocks disappear.

Beach Properties, the first paid DLC pack for Cities: Skylines 2, has been met with a 96 percent negative review score on Steam . After a few weeks of trying to get things together, developer Colossal Order announced that the DLC would be made available for free to all players, with buyers receiving a full refund. While the intentions seem to have been good in an honest attempt to regain some trust, the removal of the DLC from the store page has caused assets to no longer work properly, causing players’ buildings to be deleted in a quick Thanos snap.
Affected buildings appear as solid gray blocks and act as abandoned homes, adding to the ever-growing list of issues plaguing Colossal Order’s flagship city-builder. For players who built entire cities revolving around beach gear and used the DLC for that exact purpose, this could mean the end of their playthrough until a fix is released. In an April 21 Reddit thread, players pointed out how CO expressed their desire to regain the community’s trust after botching the DLC: “Well that sure didn’t end well,” one person wrote.
Cities: Skylines 2 has been plagued by serious issues since its launch last October. The game performed poorly at launch, faced delays in its release on consoles and modding tools, and had subpar DLC. All of this and more earned the game a “Mixed” review on Steam, with a “Mostly Negative” rating on its more recent review. The first DLC, Beach Properties, had a 96 percent negative rating on Valve’s store, leading to its removal and delisting.
