League of Legends fans fear that their favorite European regional league, the LEC, is “losing its charm” and no longer giving even the most dedicated viewers enough reasons to watch the live streams every week.

The biggest problem League fans voiced in a June 17 Reddit thread about the European league was that there’s less and less reason to watch the long regular seasons, especially after the format change. A problem that’s only been exacerbated by recent layoffs at Riot Games. Things have gotten so bad, some said, that they’re starting to see it as “the dark days of the LCS” returning.
Many League fans have also said that they feel the appeal of the LEC in recent years has been more about its casters and personalities than its players, which has become a detriment with the departures of players like Quickshot and Caedrel. Their absence has left a "void on the show" that has diminished the League's unique personality.
There were other complaints about Rift, too, mainly the lack of big names in the tournament and the absence of modern rivalries. High-quality matches were another issue, fans said. Senior European stars like Rekkles, Bwipo and Perkz not only kept the matches interesting for fans, but also propelled the region to new heights, such as G2 Esports becoming the first Eastern team to win the Mid-Season Invitational in 2019.
