How to Recover Files from Hard Drive – Laptop or Desktop – Mac or PC

I recently had a client who was running Windows 10 and got a horrible computer virus that made his computer unable to boot. Unfortunately, he had a lot of files on his hard drive that he needed and so he couldn’t just format it and start over.

If you find yourself in a similar situation where your hard drive is working fine, but the operating system won't boot due to system file corruption or a virus, there is another way to wipe your data before wiping the drive completely.

In these cases, you will need to invest a small amount of money to buy a so-called hard drive docking station. This is basically a device that allows you to take a SATA hard drive (usually) and plug it into another computer via USB. You can buy one with slots for 2.5" or 3.5" SATA hard drives, which means you can connect hard drives from laptops or desktops. If you have an SSD drive, there are also SSD hard drive docking stations.
