There is also an iPhone app specifically for long distance couples called Couple (formerly Pair) and surprisingly enough it is a great tool to show that special someone how much you care!
Couple can only be used between two people. You could hypothetically try it out with a friend, but the features on the app are all geared towards expressing romance and love, so you might not feel completely comfortable sending a "Thinking of you…" thought bubble to a casual friend or coworker.
