Since the production of CRTs has essentially been discontinued due to cost and environmental concerns, CRT-based monitors are considered an obsolete technology. All laptops and most desktop computer systems sold today come with LCD monitors. However, there are a few reasons why you might still prefer CRT displays over LCD displays.

Although CRT monitors offer better color clarity and depth, the fact that manufacturers rarely make them anymore makes them an unwise choice. LCD monitors are the current standard with a variety of options. LCD monitors are smaller and easier to handle. Plus, you can buy LCD monitors in a variety of sizes, so it’s easy to customize your desktop without all the clutter.

The main advantage of CRT monitors over LCDs is color reproduction. The contrast ratios and depths of colors displayed on CRT monitors are better than what an LCD can display. For this reason, some graphic designers use expensive and large CRT monitors for their work. The disadvantage is that the color quality decreases over time, as the phosphor in the tube breaks down.

Another advantage that CRT monitors have over LCD screens is the ability to easily scale to different resolutions. By adjusting the electron beam in the tube, the screen can be scaled down to lower resolutions while maintaining the brightness of the image. This capability is known as multisync.
