The Cyclemeter GPS cycling app takes a different approach to mapping, training and data logging. Instead of relying on a cloud-based service for the bulk of your data storage and analysis, as most apps do, Cyclemeter gives you everything you need right on your smartphone.
How to Use Your Phone as a Bike Computer
Many cyclists take their phones with them on long bike rides. Cyclemeter puts the phone’s GPS functionality to work with a full-featured bike computer, map view and training log. The app also works with a Bluetooth-paired wireless heart rate monitor.
The only downside to using an app like Cyclemeter instead of a dedicated handlebar-mounted bike computer is the lack of real-time feedback. We don’t recommend mounting a smartphone on the handlebars due to concerns about water, vibration, and dirt damage.
We've reviewed a number of other fitness and cycling apps, but we can safely say that Cyclemeter is the most comprehensive and fully featured we've come across, at least when it comes to cycling. We also appreciate the developer's approach: why require the user to connect to and use a web browser-based mapping and workout log utility when you can put everything on your phone?
