No one can gather materials as fast as the Driller, especially in his Foreman Class Mod. Therefore, the best role for the Driller is as a support, farming for upgrades so you can improve the stats of all your other classes.
Ironically, I found the first Class Mod The Foreman to be the best of the three options.
