A text string, also known as a string or simply text, is a group of characters used as data in a spreadsheet program. Text strings usually consist of words, but can also contain letters, numbers, special characters, the hyphen, or the pound sign. By default, text strings are left-aligned in a cell, while numeric data is right-aligned.
How to extract part of a text string from an Excel cell
Text strings usually begin with a letter of the alphabet, but any data formatted as text is interpreted as a string.
Text strings are also created in Excel and Google Sheets by entering an apostrophe ( ' ) as the first character of the data.
The apostrophe is not visible in the cell, but it forces the program to interpret all numbers and symbols entered after the apostrophe as text.
