A master boot record (often abbreviated as MBR) is a type of boot sector stored on a hard drive or other storage device that contains the computer code needed to initiate the boot process.
What is Master Boot Record (MBR)?
It is created when a hard drive is partitioned, but it is not contained within a partition. This means that unpartitioned storage media, such as floppy disks, do not contain a master boot record.
The MBR is located on the first sector of a disk. Its specific address is Cylinder: 0, Head: 0, Sector: 1.
A master boot record consists of three main parts: the master partition table, the disk signature, and the master boot code.
