Anyone who’s ever owned a big, clunky, plastic Dell laptop might be surprised to discover that the company makes some pretty damn fine, sleek, and streamlined premium laptops these days. The Dell XPS 13 is one of the standouts: it’s a super-polished, attractive laptop that offers a slew of optional extras, and it has a lot more flair than your typical expensive Apple or Microsoft laptop. Better yet, it does so in one of the smallest dimensions we’ve ever seen for a 13-inch laptop.
Of course, the competition is only getting tougher by the year. Does Dell’s XPS 13 still have what it takes to fend off the rivals, or does this compact yet luxurious laptop still come out on top? Here’s what we think after spending a few weeks with 2018’s 9370 model, complete with its optional 4K-resolution touchscreen.
The Rose Gold and Alpine White model we tested is a thing of beauty. Viewed from above, the Dell XPS 13 suggests a minimalist design in keeping with Apple’s MacBook allure, thanks to a reflective gold logo set in the center of a plain rose gold aluminum plate. Open the laptop up or glance at its sides and you get a sense of what makes this such a striking-looking device.
