Destiny 2’s Into The Light update is a huge success, judging by rising player numbers and glowing community praise. The randomized weapon rolls and new attunement system have been so well-received that they’ve reignited player anger over the prevalence of the game’s crafting system.

In a post today, content creator Skarrow9 lamented how much crafting, introduced to Destiny 2 in The Witch Queen, has "absolutely killed" the game's loot incentive. It's not the first time crafting has come under fire for its impact on the grind, but Into The Light's reward format was what really highlighted the issue for Skarrow. "I honestly haven't had this much fun looting for weapons in a long time," he wrote.
While randomized drops haven’t gone away since the introduction of crafting, they’ve become a significantly smaller part of Destiny 2’s loot hunt. New seasons, raids, and expansions all feature entire suites of craftable weapons, leaving only a few activities, like dungeons and ritual playlists, that exclusively offer traditional drops. As Skarrow elaborated in another answer, “it completely homogenized endgame PvE with no grind to get there. Everyone is automatically at the power ceiling.”
Into The Light not only sees the return of some of the game’s best weapons with new perks, but also features an evolution of the random roll system. Between the tuning system that allows players to farm specific weapons and the limited edition “shiny” variants that have a rare chance to drop, Bungie has constructed a middle ground: the grind can still be reduced with fine tuning, but the thrill of landing that dream loot remains.
