A major change that came to Destiny 2 this month with the Final Shape expansion was a simplified economic system based around a few key resources. Three weeks later, however, players are still having trouble getting used to the changes, which make Glimmer the most important resource.
Every time Destiny 2 players start a new game
The Final Shape did away with Legendary Shards entirely, with nearly every item, craft, or upgrade now costing Glimmer in some way, a resource that has been ignored for most of Destiny 2 as a whole due to its limited utility. As a result, players are finding it frustrating to have to refill their Glimmer after depleting their supply. “I feel like the overall state of the economy has gotten significantly worse since the removal of Legendary Shards,” one player said on the Destiny subreddit today.
They added that ways to farm Glimmer are "incredibly scarce" and that after a full dungeon clear, a Grandmaster Nightfall, and a few other endgame activities, they were still missing Glimmer for a single weapon or Exotic armor focus. "I really think Glimmer gains need to be drastically increased across the board."
Bungie had added ways for players to earn extra Glimmer in the lead-up to The Final Shape, with some adjustments made the year before. As other players were quick to point out, completing Heroic Public Events and ensuring Glimmer Ghost mods were equipped goes a long way toward restoring spent Glimmer.
