Exotic class items have been among the most coveted and controversial items in Destiny 2 since their release a few months ago. However, following a recent patch, Bungie is looking to improve the acquisition process by fixing a current bug affecting drop rates, with more changes to come in the future.
The Problem with Exotic Class Items (and How to Fix It)
A bug is preventing the final chests after defeating an Overthrow boss in the Pale Heart from awarding an Exotic-class item, Bungie acknowledged today. The Destiny 2 glitch also prevents these chests from increasing their drop chance. The studio is targeting a "short-term hotfix."
“We’re also looking into giving players a way to pursue specific perks in a future update,” the team said, though the hotfix is first on the agenda. If done right, this would be big news for Guardians, though it’s still a while before (or if) this change rolls out. It’s unclear whether this will mean some form of bad luck protection or a system that’s closer to crafting, two common solutions from the community. The plan could also deviate from either of those options.
The glitch comes on the heels of yesterday’s Update 8.0. 5, which adjusted the drop rate of Exotic class items in the Pale Heart. Previously, opening a chest in the destination of The Final Shape would give an increased chance to obtain a class item. Now, that increased drop rate from opening chests is exclusive to drops from Overthrow.
