Disney today requested that Pixleborn, a super-popular fan-made digital Lorcana site, be shut down, and the creator has complied.
Disney Lorcana First Impressions – with Tom Vasel
The launch of the Disney Lorcana TCG was anything but smooth, as Ravensburger faced major product shortages for The First Chapter. But that was in 2023, and product issues are no longer an issue today. And the card prices hold their value on the secondary market. On May 29, the creator of the digital Lorcana site called Pixleborn posted a message on Disney’s Reddit, essentially asking Pavel to shut down the site, as “Disney owns intellectual property rights to the Disney Lorcana cards and Disney has requested that Pixelborn respect these rights by not copying the cards.”
Pavel respects Disney’s wishes and will be closing Pixleborn for good on June 16th. For many who want to play Lorcana competitively, this is a huge setback. Some feel that Disney is missing out on a huge opportunity to acquire Pixleborn, and as cool as it would be, a digital version of Lorcana is not in the TCG future.
"Ravensburger told retailers at the game's launch that they have no plans to make a digital version of the game, as that would involve different rights than what they have licensed from Disney, one Reddit user said. "Ravensburger has obviously changed their minds about a lot of things, but I think it's important to note that Pavel received this request from Disney, not Ravensburger. I wouldn't hold my breath for an official online game."
