Amazon's first big-budget sci-fi shooter, Crucible, is free to play on Steam today.

Behind the scenes: We already have games like this on our consoles and PCs, including Fortnite, Overwatch, Apex Legends, and more. Amazon is taking its first tentative steps toward becoming a game developer rather than just a publisher, making Crucible a litmus test for the company. It also doesn’t hurt that Amazon owns Twitch, the “watch me play video games” service; in fact, many reviews of this new release have noted how watchable Crucible is. That’s probably on purpose.

Where to Get It: Head over to the Steam Store and you'll likely see Crucible on the store's main page. If not, you can search for it and download it to your PC for free.

In short: It may not take the larger industry by storm, but Crucible could well be your favorite new free-to-play game. And if anything, the price is right.
