Portable power stations are getting bigger, more powerful, and cheaper. You might expect a company like Anker (known for making smaller backup solutions for mobile devices) to enter this arena, but you might not have expected DJI to make such a leap, given that the company has been producing drones and cameras for the past 10 years.

That said, both drones and cameras need to pack a lot of battery power into small packages, so DJI is essentially bringing that knowledge and experience to the consumer powerhouse. And while you can use these new units to charge your devices on the go, they also work as backup systems at home.
The DJI Power 1000 Portable Power Station, which retails for just under $1,000 on Amazon, has a 1024Wh battery capacity and fully charges in an hour and 10 minutes. While I’d personally go for a more powerful power station, there’s a lot to like about the DJI.
I’ve tested a few power stations in the 1,000- to 3,000-watt-hour range over the past month, since that’s the minimum amount of juice you’ll need to keep some basic household electronics running during a power outage, like a laptop, phone, and microwave, plus a heater, air conditioner, or fan, or medical equipment like a CPAP machine. They’re also still light enough to realistically lug to a campsite.
