If your new power amplifier has a built-in fuse, it is meant to protect the amplifier itself; it will do nothing to protect the rest of the wiring in your car. One particular area of concern is the amplifier’s power wire, which could short out at some point in the future.
If you are not careful when installing a power cable for your new amplifier, it can short out and not be fused, and you could end up with significant damage. In the worst case, a shorted amplifier power cable can cause a fire.
