Like widgets on your Home screen and the Today view, Lock Screen widgets run in the background to retrieve data and provide you with periodic updates. Because of this, Lock Screen widgets, like other widgets, require additional battery resources to run passively, though not as much as apps you're actively using. You may see a decrease in battery life compared to preview builds of iOS if you've added widgets to your Lock Screen.
