Apple has added hydrogen peroxide to the list of things you absolutely should not use to clean your device. Instead, Apple recommends using milder disinfectants, such as isopropyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol.
How to disinfect your iPhone
The official support page for How To Clean Your Apple Products has seen several updates since early 2020, with the most recent addition being a warning against the use of hydrogen peroxide. According to Apple, the widely used antiseptic has a high potential for damaging the finish and/or display of virtually every type of Apple device and accessory.
Notebooks, desktops, displays, peripherals, AirPods, HomePods, iPhones, iPhone cases and accessories, iPads and iPad accessories, iPods, and Apple Watches are all susceptible. Repeated use of hydrogen peroxide or cleaners containing it can cause irreparable damage, even if you avoid getting hydrogen peroxide in your device’s openings.
Apple does say it’s OK to use milder types of cleaning chemicals, though. Clorox disinfecting wipes, 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes, and 75% ethyl alcohol wipes are approved for use. But while these products get a thumbs up, you should still be careful when cleaning your device with them.
