The days of crossplay and cross-platform support being the exception rather than the rule are fast fading. With games like Fortnite leading the charge and making themselves available on pretty much everything except the calculator collecting dust in a forgotten part of your attic (rest assured, Epic Games is working on that, too) proving that it usually pays to consoles to promote accessibility rather than limit it, even longtime console stalwarts like Sony are warming to the idea of widespread cross-platform support.
PS5 vs XBOX SERIES X: Gameplay with cross-play and backwards compatibility!
For a game to support crossplay between platforms, you need both. Think of it like a handshake (you remember those things, right?). To make a connection, one has to extend their hand and the other has to accept it. So even if the developer does everything they can to make it happen, they still need the green light from the platform.
Fortunately, all systems are usable.
Microsoft has traditionally been more open about improving accessibility and sharing technology. For a long time, the biggest hurdle was getting Sony to show up at the crossplay party. Thankfully, that all changed last year.
