Windows lets you preview a window by hovering over its icon in the taskbar. Macs can’t do that unless you install DockDoor. This free, open-source application adds previews to the dock and also gives you a nice Ctrl-Tab shortcut for switching windows.
HyperDock: Add App Preview Windows to the Dock on OS X
DockDoor is easy to install: download it, drag it to the application folder and launch it. You will need to grant both accessibility and screen recording permissions to the application for it to work. After that, the application will run in the background. You can configure it by clicking on the icon in the menu bar.
Hover over a dock icon and you’ll see a real-time preview of what’s happening in that app. If you have two windows open in that app, you’ll see both windows and can click to open them. These are all features that have been in Windows for over a decade and haven’t made their way to macOS yet.
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Tab to cycle through all the windows that are open in the current space. This is a great way to jump to a specific window without having to track it down with the mouse.
