The Fallout franchise is one of Bethesda’s biggest (along with The Elder Scrolls ), so it’s no surprise that fans want to know how to best play the games. With the Fallout TV series now available to binge-watch on Prime, even more fans have flocked to the games and franchise, increasing the player base for each game. If you’re wondering whether your Steam Deck can handle the game and what the best settings are for it, this guide is for you.
Fallout 3 – Steam Deck Settings and Achievements
Fallout 3's Steam page says that the game is "playable" on the Steam Deck. However, the game ran perfectly for me, and many fans online have had the same experience. The biggest issue Steam mentions for the game is that the game's launcher/setup tool may require a touchscreen or virtual keyboard, or may be difficult to read. I will say that the setup tool had a very small font, but that wasn't a huge issue for me. The other issue Steam notes is that entering text may require the virtual keyboard to be manually invoked. I haven't really had this issue so far, but it's something to be aware of while playing the game. Overall, the game runs extremely well on the Steam Deck with minimal issues.

Since Fallout 3 is an older game, you can play around with the settings more than you can with games that are coming out now. As with most Steam Deck games, there are a few different “best settings” depending on what you want to achieve. You’ll want different settings if you want to maximize your battery life than if you want to get the best possible graphics on the game.
