Dolby Atmos is a surround sound technology that offers greater flexibility in how sound is presented in a movie or home theater space. The immersive sound technology goes beyond the limitations of traditional 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound channels, including adding overhead sound with in-ceiling or vertically firing speakers. Since its introduction in 2014, most mid-range and high-end home theater receivers include Dolby Atmos decoding. Dolby Atmos is also available on select soundbars from Creative Labs, Integra, LG, Onkyo, Pioneer, Samsung, Sony, Yamaha, and Vizio.
LG is also including a built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar with select OLED TVs. While it's not quite the same experience as a multi-speaker Dolby Atmos speaker setup, a Dolby Atmos soundbar gives more consumers a taste of its benefits.
