Few media evoke such a nostalgic feeling in your heart as Dragon Ball, and DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO delivers on that feeling just as easily by putting the characters in Sparking Mode.
DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO – Fused Warriors Trailer [BUDOKAI TENKAICHI Series]
It’s been a long, long time since the last Budokai Tenkaichi game hit our screens, giving us the best taste of action you can get outside of the overwhelmingly popular Dragon Ball manga and anime series. But during a hands-on preview of the game behind closed doors at Summer Game Fest, Sparking! ZERO delivered on everything the series has to offer: the 3D movement, the fast-paced action, and the super Saiyan power-ups that let you live out your Dragon Ball fantasies to the max.
The title felt old-school in every way possible during the hands-on demo and a hands-off demonstration of the game’s Episode Battles. There’s a split-screen option to take on your friends on the couch and not on an internet connection miles away. There were story battles from some of the most iconic fights in Dragon Ball history, allowing players to take on the roles of some of their favorite heroes in their most dramatic moments.
And then of course there was the gameplay itself. It all played wonderfully smoothly on a controller, and while I’m no expert at fighting games, I quickly figured out how to fly, dash, punch and block to score some easy early wins.
