E3 was an annual event sponsored by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) for software developers, hardware manufacturers, and video game publishers. The event was somewhat of the gaming industry's answer to CES (an annual consumer electronics event); hundreds of exhibitors with new and upcoming products showed game demos, hosted presentations, and showcased the latest video games and innovative technologies over several days.

ESA has held E3 events only sporadically this decade, and it has finally been announced that the event is over for good. The last E3 was from 11 to 16 June 2023.
