Apple's new AirPods Max headphones are getting rave reviews from those lucky enough to get their hands on a pair.

At $549, the new wireless headphones are pricey. But they offer clear sound and the company’s trademark ease of use. The AirPods Max are sold out through March, a sign that Apple must be doing something right.

Excellent sound quality is the first thing you want in a pair of headphones at this price point, and Apple's latest delivers no less. "The AirPods Max sound impressive, like a high-end headphone, with tight bass, natural mids, clear highs, and a wide soundstage for a closed-back headphone," writes David Carnoy for CNET.

"Apple has EQ settings (under Music in Settings)—for Apple Music, at least—and you can make some minor adjustments to the sound profile. But I mainly used the default sound profile across multiple music services, which suited my eclectic musical tastes just fine."
