After a countdown that appeared last week, Threads has finally launched in Europe, although there are a few differences from what's available across the pond.
🚀 Bypass European restrictions! How to create a Threads account, an Instagram app, for EU residents?
Mark Zuckerberg made the official announcement on Threads on Thursday, offering few details, as is fairly common for these types of announcements. But updates to a Meta blog post originally released in July announcing the launch of Threads provided more details.
The most exciting thing about the European release of Threads is that new Threads users in Europe will be able to use the service without connecting their Instagram accounts. However, functionality will be limited. Europeans who use Threads without a connected Instagram account "can view content on Threads, search for accounts, share content via copy link or share platform, and report Threads content, but will not be able to create a post or interact with content," the post updates said.
You still have to connect your Instagram account to Threads if you want to create new posts or interact with existing content, so there are limits to what you can do if you go the privacy route.
